The construction industry has historically lacked gender diversity, but that’s changing. Each year, Women in Construction (WIC) Week, organized by National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC), shines a spotlight on the contributions of women in the industry. It’s a time to highlight their successes, advocate for greater representation, and inspire the next generation of female leaders in construction.
At TruGrid, we use this week to elevate the voices of our female employees, share their stories, and reinforce our commitment to diversity and inclusion.

“As women in construction, we spend so much time uplifting others—our teams, our projects, and the industry itself. But sometimes, we forget to recognize our own impact. I wouldn’t be here without my mentor, Heymard Cossio, our Master Electrician, who opened the door for me. The values instilled in me by my parents continue to guide my actions because, at the end of the day, all you truly have is your name—and it’s up to you to define its reputation. I take immense pride in every project I contribute to, and I’m grateful to TruGrid for giving me the opportunity to work hard, grow, and see a project come to life from day one to completion. I love what I do, and every experience at TruGrid reminds me that I’m part of something bigger.“

“Construction is in my blood. I grew up watching my Grandma Helen run a construction company alongside my grandpa. It shaped my love for the industry and inspired me. Today, I’m proud to be part of TruGrid, where we’re building large-scale battery storage and solar projects that make energy cleaner and more reliable. I’m thankful to contribute to the energy transition along such a talented and knowledgeable team.“
So, why is it essential to recruit more women to the construction industry? There are many benefits for women who choose this career path.
A diverse workforce fosters fresh ideas and perspectives, leading to better problem-solving and decision-making.
The construction industry is facing a labor gap, and by welcoming more women into the field, we can help meet the demand for skilled workers.
Expanding career opportunities for women in construction enhances financial stability and contributes to economic growth in our communities.
Women fill a wide range of construction roles, from project managers and engineers to electricians, operators, safety leaders, and more. Their expertise and dedication drive innovation, safety, and quality on job sites across North America.
While progress has been made, there’s still work to do. Women represent only about 14% of the total construction workforce, but their presence is growing. More companies, including TruGrid, are investing in mentorship programs, leadership development, and workplace policies that encourage career advancement for women.
